October-2014



October
We had 21 teaching days in October and 1 staff development day and 1 whole school testing/activity day.
We worked with 67 classes this month in the library. Many classes were taught simultaneously using the Media 2 classroom.



What did we teach? 

We taught Mrs. Dickey's classes about research and citing sources for their "Hero" projects.



We taught Mr. Bucska's classes about research and citing sources for their research projects.
We taught Mrs. Corbett's classes orientation to the library, using EasyBib, finding sources using our catalog, and finding information on databases and websites.

We taught Mrs. Herman's classes about research and citing sources for their class projects on fashion, sports, and entrepreneurs. We had books on a cart for these classes.

We taught Mr. Hudson and Mrs. Stockdale's classes to create a mixbook and bookemon project to highlight learning of History SOL's. We had books on a cart for these classes.

We taught Mrs. Anderson's, Mrs. Fuller's, and Mrs. Oliver's classes how to set up projects, cite sources, do annotations, note cards, and  outlines using EasyBib and database research for their English research papers.

We taught Ms. Tolley's classes how to use Easybib to cite sources and research with databases for a Engineering Research project and paper. We also pulled books and had them available on a cart for this class.

September 2014

Welcome back!

We taught 36 classes in the month of September.
We taught classes to most 9th grade English classes with a library scavenger hunt using the online catalog, databases, websites, and also citing these sources in easybib.



We taught Mrs. Matthew's classes on doing research with books and databases on inventions and entrepreneurs and preparing a speech to present to the class.

We taught Mrs. Dickey's classes on doing research with books and databases on "Real Life Heroes".
We also taught them how to cite  these sources using Easybib. Library Services is now paying for every student and teacher in the county to have an Easybib school edition account.

We taught Mr. Bucska's class on doing research for a writing a research paper. We showed them databases, websites and how to evaluate them and how to cite and write annotations using Easybib.

We taught Mrs. Norris's classes how to write annotations and research for their capstone projects.

We spent 2 days providing teacher training on using Easybib and Databases. If we had time we also showed them e-books in our catalog, and Gale virtual reference e-books.

We have been weeding our collection and we will be doing inventory at the end of this school year and have been told we need to weed nearly 600 books from our collection.

New books have arrived and are on display. Mrs. Smart made a very nice video that we showed during advisory on Monday and also displayed it in  hcps google + account. If you did not see it, look for it there.

Meetings in September:

Sept. 3- We meet with Mr. Pritchard to plan teacher training at 1:45

Sept. 9- Faculty Meeting with Dr. Kinlaw at 8:00 in the auditorium

Sept. 16- Meet with Mr. Pritchard about TalentEd and our evaluations at 4:00

Sept. 18- Godwin HS librarian who is Mrs. Lopez Mentee came to observe lessons

Sept. 19- Met with all high school librarians and specialist 9:30-11:30 and looked at Gale Virtual Reference e-books

Sept 24 & 25- Mrs. Leonard spent half day training, learning about attendance as the backup attendance secretary.

Sept. 29- Mrs. Smart met with our specialist to discuss Standard 7 since she is on the full 3 year evaluation cycle.

June-Deep Run Library


June 2-6

We worked with 8 different teachers this week.

We went to Mrs. Oliver, Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. Kessinger's classrooms to explain the Senior Project and give out notices for an interest meeting this week.

We worked with Mrs. Stockdale, Mr. Hudson, Mrs. Adkins and Mr. Bucska's classes doing a scavenger hunt using the online library catalog to find books and then answer content questions. The first group to win in each class received candy.

On Monday we had our end of the year Page Turners club meeting and ice cream party after school from 4:15-5:30.

On Friday we had a Senior Project meeting during extended study.  A former student named Muhammed Naqvi who did the Senior Project came and talked during the meeting.

Only overnight book checkouts after June 6. Most books should be returned by June 6th.

June 9-13

 Final semester exams begin this week and students got out early Mon.-Thus. at 1:00 and Fri. at 10:30.

On Monday we had a lunch and learn session at the Federal Reserve Bank downtown. We learned about available resources to use with classes for next school year.

We had faculty graduation practice on Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday and Thursday we surplussed old broken equipment for the year.

 Wednesday was graduation for Deep Run High School at 11:00 at the Siegel Center. We had lunch as a faculty afterwards at Baja Bean.

On Friday we had our end of the year faculty meeting and faculty cookout.

We signed off on end of the year checkout list in the library.

June 16-17

We cleaned files and prepared for the 2014-2015 school year.
We had our end of the year Librarians meeting and retirement luncheon with all the librarians in the county.
We will be back 3rd week of August.
