June-Deep Run Library


June 2-6

We worked with 8 different teachers this week.

We went to Mrs. Oliver, Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. Anderson, and Mrs. Kessinger's classrooms to explain the Senior Project and give out notices for an interest meeting this week.

We worked with Mrs. Stockdale, Mr. Hudson, Mrs. Adkins and Mr. Bucska's classes doing a scavenger hunt using the online library catalog to find books and then answer content questions. The first group to win in each class received candy.

On Monday we had our end of the year Page Turners club meeting and ice cream party after school from 4:15-5:30.

On Friday we had a Senior Project meeting during extended study.  A former student named Muhammed Naqvi who did the Senior Project came and talked during the meeting.

Only overnight book checkouts after June 6. Most books should be returned by June 6th.

June 9-13

 Final semester exams begin this week and students got out early Mon.-Thus. at 1:00 and Fri. at 10:30.

On Monday we had a lunch and learn session at the Federal Reserve Bank downtown. We learned about available resources to use with classes for next school year.

We had faculty graduation practice on Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday and Thursday we surplussed old broken equipment for the year.

 Wednesday was graduation for Deep Run High School at 11:00 at the Siegel Center. We had lunch as a faculty afterwards at Baja Bean.

On Friday we had our end of the year faculty meeting and faculty cookout.

We signed off on end of the year checkout list in the library.

June 16-17

We cleaned files and prepared for the 2014-2015 school year.
We had our end of the year Librarians meeting and retirement luncheon with all the librarians in the county.
We will be back 3rd week of August.

May- Deep Run High School Library


May 1- 9

We worked with 3 different teachers this week and 8 had classes in the library.

We worked with Mr. O'Dell's classes on using library databases for Science Research
We worked with Mr. Clarkson's classes on writing a 5 paragraph essay and doing research with book sources.
We worked with Mrs. Carpenter's classes on getting to know your college library.

We had a Page Turner's meeting on Monday after school from 4:00-5:15

We listened to the seniors present their projects and served on the grading committee on Thursday after school from 4:00-5:45

We attended SOL faculty training at the Faculty Meeting on Tuesday morning before school at 8:00.

May 12-16

SOL testing began this week.
We worked with 2 of Mrs. Coleman's classes on getting to know your college library.
We attended the Secondary Quarterly Library Meeting at Moody Middle School on Thursday after school from 4:15- 5:45
Deep Run Challenge Club meets to discuss officers for 2014-2015 during extended study.

May 19-23

SOL testing continued this week.
Mrs. Smart helped judge the seniors capstone center of technology projects in Mrs. Norris classroom this week.

May 26-30

We worked with 2 of Mrs. Stockedale's classes on doing a scavenger hunt using the online catalog.

We attended the Henrico21 awards ceremony at GAHS from 5:30-8:00 where there were many Deep Run High School winners.

April - Deep Run High School Library


April 1-4

We worked with 23 classes this week.

Mrs. Dickey had 2 classes start a project on Roman Tours, where students create slideshows and become tour guides of their content and slides. Click here to see the lesson: Wildcats Roman Tours
Mrs. Stockdale had 2 classes come and learn how to create a smores study guide for SOL reviews
Mr. Hudson had 3 classes work in the library this week in Media 2 classroom.

April 7-11

Page turners book club met on Monday after school where we discussed this month reading of  Enders's Game. Then played the game sequence.

 

Sammye won the game and got to choose a book as her prize for winning.

Public service announcement played on the morning announcements this week to promote National
School Library Month.

On Thursday Mrs. Lopez attended a Henrico21  scoring meeting at the school board office from 1:00-4:00.

Come during study hall on Thursday or Friday this week and read or check out a book in honor of National Library Month. Study hall teachers can give you a pass. You can read in the courtyard or the library. Check out this video about our new books.

Friday we held an ice cream social in the library after all lunches for teachers and in honor of National Library Month.

Friday the PTA hospitality committee brought the library staff lunch from Panera Bread.

We worked with 19 classes this week.


April 14-18

We were on spring break this week.
Mrs. Lopez went to Disney World with her husband, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
Mrs. Smart went to Staunton Virginia with her husband and daughter.
Mrs. Leonard celebrated her birthday over spring break.

April 21-25

On Tuesday we had a secondary librarians meeting at Belmont Recreation Association and found out about new Gale databases that the county is planning to purchase and EasyBib which will be purchased for all schools next year.


We also had the new grants coordinator present at our meeting and explain the process of applying for grants in the county. 
Mrs. Lopez has been working on scoring Henrico21 lessons this week for the county committee.
Mrs. Smart attended informational meetings this week about National Board Certification. 
We worked with 5 of Mrs. Gage's classes this week on copyright and images.

April 28-30

We worked with 2 of Mr. Clarkson's classes twice this week on writing a research paper.

We had an athletic signing in the library for Caroline Mosberg, who will be playing tennis for Mary Washington University next school year. Congratulations Caroline.

Mrs. Lopez attended the final Henrico21 scoring committee meeting at Glen Allen High School this week.
Mrs. Smart worked at the Mr. Deep Run Competition this week after school on Monday evening.
We attended the National Library Month celebration with other librarians, principals, and school board members at Varina High School on Wednesday after school from 4:00-6:00.
