January 2015


Jan. 2015

There were 17 teaching days in the month of January. We had off for MLK day and off for students the Monday after exams and then off one day for snow.

We had exams Jan. 20-23 with early dismissal each day. So, there were actually only 13 teaching days for January.

We worked with 4 different teachers the month of January.

We taught new printing procedures to all of Mr. O'Dells classes. Students now have to enter a number code to retrieve their printing. Directions have been put in school space and the librarians have all student's codes if they should forget their code.


We taught Mrs. Rogers classes how to use Mixbook for a class project.

Mrs. Prego invited us to participate with 2 of her classes. She invited us to come and play video games the students made and then evaluate them on a Google doc.

Mrs. Norris classes came in to start doing research for their capstone projects.

Page Turners Meeting: Jan. 12th after school and makeup during extended study. We read and discussed the book, "I Robot" this month. We had discussion questions, snacks and then students made their own robots.

December 2014

We had 15 teaching days in the month of December.
We worked with 5 different teachers this month and had 36 classes in the library this month.

Mrs. Berry's English classes came in and worked on writing a persuasive research paper and used EasyBib and research techniques we taught them.


Mr. Knapp's  History classes came in and worked on a "Distribution of Wealth" Project where they researched in databases and websites we provided to them and also cited their sources in EasyBib,

Mrs. Roger's Economic classes came in and worked on researching an "Entrepreneur" and will give speeches at the end of the month, as that Entrepreneur telling about their successes and failures.

Mrs. Gibson's English classes came in and did a scavenger's hunt using our books and website links to answer questions that related to a novel study of "Fahrenheit 451", which they are currently reading in class.



Deep Run Challenge Club held an Open Mic Night as a fund raiser and had students perform and provided snacks after school in the library. Mrs. Smart and Mrs. Lopez sponsored the event.


Mrs. Latcovish's  Psychology classes finished up their projects "States of Consciousness" this month, sometimes working in the library or in their classroom.

November

We had 16 teaching days for the month of November and 1 teacher work day and 3 days holiday for Thanksgiving holiday.

The Administrative team treats us well on Halloween too.




We had 44 classes we worked with this month.

Mrs. Herman's classes finished up their projects and ended with giving their individual speeches in the library.


On our teacher workday, we finished up working on our Standard 7 student growth portfolios and planning lessons for the rest of the month. We complete 2 rubrics for 10 students covering 4 standards and 2 indicators for each standard.

What do we teach?

We taught Mrs. Alcazar's classes how to do the 11th grade research paper.

We taught Mrs. Anderson's class how to do a good presentation. The students watched a video of a bad and then good presentation and then saw a teacher created power point on what makes a good presentation.



We taught Mrs. Latcovich's classes how to create a Google site project on the States of Consciousness with peer evaluations.

We taught Mr. Knapp's classes how to do a Economist project using books and the databases in OneSearch.

We met with Mrs. Gordon on her planning period and showed her how to do research using the OneSearch databases and set up an EasyBib account for doing her citations, annotations, note-cards and outline for a class she is taking, in which she needs to write a research paper.

We taught Mrs. Stockdale's classes how to do a Scientific Revolution project.

We had Mrs. Gibson's and Mrs. Khimani's classes come in for a speed dating library activity, where they rotated and evaluated books in different genre's. Books we pulled for this activity.

Out with the Old and In with the New: So far we have weeded 469 books from our collection and are buying new print books, e-books and audio books. If you have a suggestion of something you would like to see on our shelves, let us know.
